A Little Introduction

Inspiration For Judy’s Heart: Mrs. Judy Scott

In honor of Mrs. Judy Scott: Judy Scott, born on October 1, 1954, was a devoted wife and mother to my father, Gregory Scott Sr., brother Gregory Scott Jr., and myself, T’Ana Scott. Judy was also a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren. She was always there for her family and those in need.

Mrs. Scott was a Fraud Claim Analyst for the Department of Labor for 28 years. She also served as a Greater Beach Grove Baptist Church member in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Judy served on the Elderly Care Committee, Hospitality Committee, and Home Mission Board, as well as being one of the Youth Ministers. Judy was also a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul, where she got my brother and me involved in volunteering on Saturday mornings. She also volunteered to do different events with the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

In November 1996, Judy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Despite going into remission once, she passed away on April 2, 2003. Judy Scott’s impact on her community was significant, and her legacy is one of kindness and generosity.

Witnessing my mother’s unwavering dedication to others has profoundly influenced me. Her mission has inspired me to establish Judy’s Heart, a nonprofit organization in her memory, created on September 21, 2021. Our mission is to continue bridging the homelessness gap by providing nonperishable food, clothing, personal hygiene items, portable showers, and other essential items to those in need. I am committed to upholding my mother’s legacy and that of my late father, Gregory Scott Sr., and my late brother, Gregory Scott Jr. I hope that this organization will continue to bring joy to those who remember my family and the positive impact they had on others.

Testimonials

The Heart of the People

“While volunteering with Judy’s Heart, I discovered immense fulfillment in brightening the lives of homeless men and women. Providing them with a basic meal, along with hygiene products and snacks, felt like assembling small care packages of compassion. Judy’s Heart is an extraordinary charity, igniting love and kindness from one soul to another.”

My name is Anthony Vaughters. I have been a partner, volunteer, and long-time supporter of the Judy's Heart Foundation. I have been working with T'ana Scott for almost a full decade in the Killeen Texas area.  I can attest to the great work in the community the organization has accomplished. There have been many community events such as book bag drives, partnerships with the local homeless prevention community, as well as supporting communities in school opportunities.   I personally owned a business for almost 20 years in the community.  With the help and partnerships of the Judy's Heart organization, we were able to help numerous families each year with annual food drives, food packages during the holiday seasons, as well as providing toiletries and many basic care items that can be overlooked by the general community, but critical to the needs of the low-income families in the community.   I plan to continue my relationship with the Judy's Heart team, and I recommend any community fortunate enough to have this team to do the same. Judy's Heart team members and the vision overall changes lives one family at a time.

“My experience volunteering with Judy’s Heart was truly a blessing. We dove right in, reaching out to those in need. Our motivation wasn’t for publicity; it was to truly see and connect with them. Being out on the streets alongside these individuals opened my eyes even wider. The people we served were genuinely kind and friendly, welcoming us with open arms. We didn’t just give; we laughed, shared stories, and lent a listening ear. Sometimes, the greatest gift is simply being present. May this organization continue to grow, touching more lives. Keep extending your hand. God Bless.”

“I had the privilege of participating in the Judy’s Hearts program in Killeen, TX, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. Grateful for the opportunity, I joined other volunteers in serving low-income communities around the Killeen area. Over the course of two weeks, we provided food, hygiene kits, and small seasonal items to homeless individuals and those staying in shelters. The experience was truly humbling, allowing us to engage in open conversations and lend a non-judgmental ear. I highly recommend anyone with available time to volunteer with this well-organized group.”

"As a volunteer for Judy’s Heart, I had a wonderful experience, and I strongly encourage everyone to join the mission of giving back to the community. During my time as a volunteer, I witnessed Ms. Scott’s unwavering dedication and hard work for Judy’s Heart. From packing snacks and creating wellness bags to thoughtful product selection, every effort was made to benefit those in need. My favorite moments were when we personally delivered care packages to shelters and other locations known to Ms. Scott. Witnessing the gratitude and respect from individuals facing challenging circumstances was truly heartwarming. Judy’s Heart has a significant impact on the community, providing reassurance to those who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Their commitment extends beyond emotional well-being to physical and mental health support. I wholeheartedly encourage others to join this mission and contribute to the community through Judy’s Heart”

Volunteering for Judy’s Heart nonprofit was an extraordinary experience. As a family-owned organization, they not only treat each volunteer like family but also extend that warmth to the recipients of their care. The owner’s authenticity shines through as she ensures that every bag is filled with essential hygiene items, as well as food and beverages to keep each person feeling fresh and nourished. What sets Judy’s Heart apart is their commitment to going the extra mile. When someone is in need, they step up to provide support. For instance, on a cold day, they made sure a mother and child without warm clothes received jackets and shoes. Being part of this nonprofit was a wonderful privilege, and I would gladly do it again. Judy’s Heart ensures that every donation directly benefits the community, making the experience even more rewarding.
